Girls' Day Out

Alice Muller

When the husband of one of our members was searching the internet for a continuous laminating machine, he found the nearest dealer to be Rubber Stampsations in Buffalo.

Although totally unrelated, one thing led to another and she found herself nosing around the store. When she came to a guild meeting with a lovely brass stencil of a quill and inkpot, some others were also interested in acquiring one.

So it was decided to have a girls' day out and go across the border. We found the small store to have quite a range of products, not only rubber stamps and pads, but supplies for quilling, paper making and moulding, various inks, markers, glitter glue, paints and a liquid which dried to a rubbery texture for relief work.

There were soft cover books and magazines, packages of precut fancy boxes to be assembled, boxed sets of stamps, paper and envelopes, and drawers of all kinds and colours of precut 8 ½ x 11 card. There were numerous attractive cards on display to stimulate ideas.

Of course we spent a good deal of time looking through the selection of brass templates, and bought several different ones. (Had to order another quill and inkpot!) The employee was enthusiastic and helpful, and later when the owner came to work, she gave us each an assortment of paper to take home.

There is a large room at the back where lessons are given, and one can join a Club for a nominal fee, and get a discount on certain purchases. After three hours checking out every nook and cranny, our tummies were grumbling, and we came back to Fort Erie for a relaxing supper - no dishes.

It has come to our attention that besides Duffy's in Port Dalhousie, new stamp shops have opened in Fonthill and Thorold.

If anyone knows of others in the Niagara/Hamilton area, please let us know.
