At our April meeting, Neil gave a presentation on the basics of lining for Calligraphy. Primarily designed for the benefit of our newcomers, all of us were pleased to get back to our roots after some of the more exotic workshops enjoyed recently.
Neil covered the basics such as ruling guidelines, ascenders and descenders, spacing and centring. He also gave a demonstration of the Ames & Koh-I-Noor liners. Both of these inexpensive instruments can be used for quickly drawing guidelines at the appropriate spacing for various nib widths. As well Neil gave us a good cheat sheet for lining various hands, based on Mitchell nibs and Calligraphic Markers.
Once again Neil rose to the occasion and gave a introductory presentation on the italic Minuscules. Although and hour is too short a time to little other than briefly introduce the basic ductus of each letter, Neil, as usual, provided excellent handouts which will inspire us all to practice more.
Again thanks Neil for an entertaining and inspiring evening.
