Hamilton Guild held a Medieval Magic day back in March this year.
The event was well attended and was particularly enjoyed by three of Niagaras members, Joan, Mike & Chris
One of these members, Joan Gooderham, gave a half-day workshop on Colour Layering techniques.
With her usual artistic flair and enthusiasm Joan explained the technique of gradually building up layers of colour to provide an almost 3-dimensional effect to her lettering.

An example of Joan's name tags for the class
Start with a light colour for the body of the letter and then
add gradually darker colours to the extremities.
Zig brush markers work best for this having the right balance of strength and
pliability to ensure crisp square ends to the letters.
To finish off we highlighted our work by outlining the letters with multi-coloured gell pens.

Mike's effort
Half a day was not long enough and the writer, at least, is looking forward
to attending a longer workshop on the subject.
