This book arts event, now so well known to exhibitors and the general public in Southern Ontario and Western New York State, was held in April this year, and as usual Niagara Calligraphy Guild participated with 3 teams of two people at a time, to show and demonstrate calligraphic work, plus personalize no-charge bookmarks for the visitors. Alice Muller and Hazel McGraw were the first team on a two-hour shift - and were they busy! Hazel had a donut she wanted to eat but the rush was so great and prolonged that the next team (Mike Whittington and Neil Reichelt) inherited it. They too were very busy on their "shift" and when Val VanHartingsveldt and Chris Towndrow arrived to take over, the neglected donut now was waiting for them.
In addition to plain bookmarks and others brought in by individual team members for lettering, the Guild had stocked up on a large stack of paste paper bookmarks. By the time the event drew to a close, Val and Chris had only a few pieces left.. With a general public that appreciates the high standard of Wayzgoose bringing together paper makers, book binders, book-makers, printers, publishers and gold stampers - all selling and demonstrating their highly skilled crafts, it is rewarding to meet children and adults so interested in calligraphic skills.
As usual, the day ended with the Gallery being transformed into a gracious dining room for a delicious dinner as a thank-you to the exhibitors. Val and Chris, being the last team members, stayed on for the usual joyful, relaxed "re-union" of exhibitors and Grimsby Art Gallery members.
