Upcoming Workshops

"Design, Calligraphy and You" Buffalo Pen Crafters

Buffalo

The workshop is offered by Marijo A. Carney and Gail Vick Barnhardt and will be held at Canisius College in Buffalo on June 17 and 18.

Ninety-five percent of the supplies needed for the workshop will be provided for in the US $20 workbook and materials fee. The rest of what is needed is probably already in the participants workboxes.

The workshop presenters describe the workshop as follows:

"Learn the elements and principles of design in this hearts-in, hands-on workshop for calligraphers.

See, touch, explore, enjoy, create, and design in an encouraging, non-threatening atmosphere.

Use an innovative "Design Workbook," specially written for this class by the instructors.

The workbook contains definitions, instructions, exercises, and materials on each element and principle of design necessary for creating strong, appropriate and effective calligraphic layouts."

Line, texture, colour, balance, value, and contrast for calligraphers are all explored. Slides, coordinating with the workbook, illustrate the application of these concepts.

Participants get to apply the basic principles they learn in inventive classroom exercises. The workshop will inform participants about design and how it can be applied to improve calligraphic work.
